Hail Damage Roof Replacement Project in Minneapolis
🏠 Project Overview
This south Minneapolis roof replacement was completed as part of a hail damage insurance claim. Hail impact had compromised the existing shingles across the roof, and eRoof documented the damage, worked through the insurance process, and completed a full tear-off and replacement.
The project included a full GAF roofing system with new underlayment, ice and water shield, ventilation, flashing, and pipe boots — topped off with a GAF Silver Pledge Warranty covering both workmanship and materials.
🔍 Hail Damage Assessment
The close-up photos below show multiple hail impact points across the roof surface — the kind of damage that’s easy to miss from the ground but clearly visible up close. Each circled area shows bruising or fracturing of the shingle granules, which breaks down the shingle’s ability to shed water and protect the roof deck over time.

🏗️ Roof Replacement Details
Once the claim was approved, eRoof removed the existing shingles down to the deck, de-nailed the decking, and re-nailed any loose wood before installing the new roofing system.
Shingles & Ridge
- Installed GAF Timberline HDZ Lifetime Dimensional Shingles per manufacturer specifications
- Finished ridges and hips with GAF Timbertex Hip & Ridge Shingles
- Installed GAF ProStart Starter Shingles along all gutter lines and rake edges
Underlayment & Ice Protection
- Installed IKO Protecto Ice & Water Shield at all gutter lines and 3 feet up valleys
- Installed GAF FeltBuster Synthetic Underlayment across the full roof deck
Ventilation
- Installed GAF Cobra Snow Country ridge vent for attic exhaust
- Installed a Lomanco kitchen pro vent for interior exhaust
- Removed existing gutters as needed to complete edge work
Flashing & Pipe Boots
- Installed new valley metal throughout
- Installed new perimeter drip edge and gutter apron
- Installed new roof-to-wall and step flashing where needed
- Installed new pipe flashings in 2″, 3″, and 4″ sizes
- Installed reglet flashing where the sloped roof meets the stucco siding (homeowner-selected upgrade)
Wood Repair
- Re-nailed loose decking and replaced damaged OSB as needed
- All additional rotten or warped decking addressed per scope
