GAF Timberline UHDZ Roof Replacement Project Plymouth MN

GAF Timberline UHDZ Roof Replacement Project Plymouth MN
š Project Overview
For this Plymouth roof replacement, the homeowner wanted a long-term solutionānot just a new layer of shingles. The existing roof was torn off down to the deck so our team could inspect, re-nail, and prepare the entire system for a premium GAF Timberline UHDZ roof, upgraded ventilation, and new Velux Sun Tunnel skylights.
From the first tarp on the landscaping to the final cleanup, our goal was a roof that performs in Minnesota weather and is fully covered under GAFās top-tier Golden Pledge Warranty.
šļø Roofing System Details
After protecting the home and plants, we removed the existing shingles down to the wood deck, de-nailed, and re-nailed any loose areas so the new system could be installed over a solid, code-compliant substrate.
Weather Protection & Underlayment
- Installed 6′ of GAF WeatherWatchĀ® Ice & Water Shield along all gutter lines, up valleys, and around critical penetrations to help guard against ice dams and wind-driven rain.
- Installed GAF FeltBusterĀ® synthetic underlayment across the remaining roof deck for a clean, dry, and stable base.
- Used GAF ProStartĀ® starter shingles along all eaves and rake edges to lock in the first course and help resist shingle blow-offs.
GAF Timberline UHDZ Shingle System
- Installed GAF TimberlineĀ® UHDZ⢠Lifetime dimensional shingles per manufacturer specifications using 1 ¼” roofing nails.
- Finished all hips and ridges with GAF TimbertexĀ® hip & ridge shingles for added dimension and wind resistance.
Ventilation & Penetrations
To improve airflow and reduce future attic moisture problems, we reworked the roofās ventilation:
- Installed a new ridge vent and plugged eight box vents and one power vent, consolidating exhaust at the ridge for cleaner, more efficient ventilation.
- Installed new bathroom and kitchen roof vents to properly vent those fans to the exterior.
- Installed new lead and rubber pipe flashings for metal and PVC penetrations, along with new bases, collars, and caps on the furnace stacks, then painted the stacks to blend with the new roof.
Chimney Protection & Flashing
Chimneys are a common leak point, so this project included a full upgrade:
- Built and installed a new chimney cricket to help divert water and shed snow around the back of the chimney.
- Installed new chimney flashing and reglet to tie the roof system into the masonry correctly and help keep that intersection watertight.
Velux Sun Tunnel Skylights
To bring more natural light into the home without the heat loss of older skylight designs:
- Installed new Velux Sun Tunnel skylights, properly flashed and integrated into the GAF system so they perform with the roof for years to come.
Additional Details
- Re-used the existing gutter apron where appropriate and in good condition.
- All work was completed by certified, insured craftsmen, supervised by a dedicated Production Manager and Crew Chief.
- The site was cleaned of work-related debris to the best extent possible at the end of the project.
š”ļø Warranty & Result
This Plymouth roof is now protected by a GAF Golden PledgeĀ® Warranty, providing 30-year workmanship coverage and 50-year material coverage on the installed GAF components (per the job agreement). That gives the homeowner one of the strongest roofing warranties availableābacked by both the contractor and the manufacturer.
With a fully rebuilt GAF system, upgraded ventilation, new chimney protection, and Velux Sun Tunnels tied into the roof, this home is set up for long-term performance in Minnesotaās snow, ice, and wind.
