GAF Timberline HDZ Roof Replacement Savage MN – Project

GAF Timberline HDZ Roof Replacement Project in Savage MN
🏠 Project Overview
For this Savage, MN roof replacement, the homeowner needed a full, insurance-driven reroof that would hold up to future storms and improve water management around the home. Our team removed the existing shingles, inspected the roof deck, and installed a complete GAF Timberline HDZ roofing system in Charcoal, along with upgraded flashing, new slant back vents, and targeted gutter improvements.
This project also included HydroShield gutter screens on the garage eaves, helping keep debris out of the gutters and directing water where it belongs.
🏗️ Roofing System Details
After protecting the home and landscaping, we tore off the existing shingles down to the wood deck so we could evaluate and correct any deck issues before installing the new system. Any necessary wood work was completed to ensure a solid, code-compliant base.
Weather Protection & Underlayment
- Installed GAF WeatherWatch® Ice & Water Shield along vulnerable areas to help protect against ice dams and wind-driven rain.
- Installed GAF Deck-Armor® synthetic underlayment across the remaining roof deck for a breathable, stable, and dry substrate.
- Used GAF ProStart® starter shingles along all eaves and rake edges to help lock in the field shingles and improve wind resistance.
GAF Timberline HDZ Shingle System
- Installed GAF Timberline® HDZ™ shingles (Charcoal) per manufacturer specifications using 1 ¼” roofing nails.
- Finished all hips and ridges with GAF Timbertex® hip & ridge shingles (Charcoal) for a clean, dimensional finish and added durability.
Flashing, Edges & Details
Proper metalwork is critical for long-term performance, so we upgraded the edges and transitions:
- Installed custom-bent aluminum drip edge (4″ top x 3″ face) in Almond for a clean, finished edge along the roofline.
- Installed new aluminum gutter apron in Almond to help direct water cleanly into the gutters.
- Installed black galvanized W-valley metal for strong, watertight valleys.
- Installed black dormer flashing and step flashing to properly tie the roof into dormer and wall intersections.
- Installed Norandex J-channel (Mocha) where trim and siding interfaces required clean, sealed terminations.
Ventilation & Penetrations
To improve airflow and protect against future moisture problems in the attic:
- Installed GAF galvanized slant back roof vents sized appropriately for the roof area.
- Installed a Lomanco roof vent to properly exhaust kitchen ventilation.
- Installed new FJ Moore pipe flashings and associated storm collars for metal penetrations, along with appropriate bases and caps.
- Sealed all penetrations with high-quality sealant and finished exposed metal with matching touch-up paint where needed.
Skylight & Garage Roof Adjustments
- Covered and closed off two existing skylight openings on the garage, framing and decking over these areas so the new roof could be installed as a continuous system.
- Cut in two new dead vents on the garage roof as specified, tying them into the new shingle system and underlayment.
Labor & Site Management
- Full tear-off, roof installation, and bundle carry to the roof were handled by our crew.
- Two-story access and safety requirements were accounted for.
- Existing gutters were detached and reset as needed to complete the roofing work.
- All roofing debris was loaded into a dumpster and hauled away, with a final cleanup around the home.
💧 Gutter Protection Upgrade
In addition to the roof replacement, this project included a targeted gutter improvement:
- Installed HydroShield steel mesh gutter screens on the right garage eaves to help keep leaves and debris out of the gutters while maintaining proper water flow.
- This gutter work is backed by eRoof’s 2-year labor warranty on gutter, downspout, and topper installation, providing extra peace of mind for the homeowner’s water management system.
🛡️ Warranty & Result
This Savage roof replacement is protected by a GAF Golden Pledge® Warranty, providing 30-year workmanship coverage and 50-year material coverage on the installed GAF components (per the job agreement). That gives the homeowner manufacturer-backed protection in addition to eRoof’s installation standards.
With a new GAF Timberline HDZ Charcoal roof, upgraded flashing, improved ventilation, sealed penetrations, and HydroShield gutter screens on the garage, this home is better prepared for Minnesota’s rain, wind, ice, and snow.
